Every once in a while, a van comes back to us that feels a little like seeing an old friend.
This 1997 Volkswagen Eurovan Camper, affectionately named Oscar, is one of those vans.
We have known Oscar for more than a decade and have actually sold this van twice since 2016. Over the years, we've also performed a number of upgrades, so this isn't a Eurovan that simply showed up at our shop for consignment. We know this van and much of its history.
Oscar now has approximately 162,000 miles, runs and drives great, has extensive service history, and is equipped with thousands of dollars in upgrades that make a big difference when you're actually using a Eurovan for camping and travel.
A Van With a Story
Oscar's current owner purchased him during the pandemic and she and her husband took wonderful care of the van. They enjoyed Oscar together, and she told us just how much her husband loved him.
Sadly, her husband has since passed away. With so many memories tied to their adventures together, she doesn't see herself continuing to camp alone and decided it was time for Oscar to find his next home.
We think the best chapter for this van is simply for someone new to take him camping again.
Known to Poptop World Since 2015
One of the things we particularly like about Oscar is that we know him.

Recently Serviced & Inspected by Poptop World
Oscar came to us having been recently serviced by another shop, so rather than simply assuming everything was ready, we had our technician inspect the van again as part of our consignment process.
The only mechanical issue our technician found was a secondary air pump that needed replacement and was causing the Check Engine light.
We replaced the secondary air pump and took care of the issue.
Otherwise, Oscar checked out well and runs and drives great.
The documented history also shows continued maintenance in recent years, including suspension and wheel-bearing work, and the most recent documented service in February 2026 included a maintenance inspection, oil and filter change, tire rotation, cooling-system and charging-system checks, drivability checks and other routine inspections. 1997 Stengel Van Carfax 1997 Stengel Van Carfax
